Why are we the “Greener Cleaner”®

Perth’s is a company made up of people- we care about our children, our community and our world. We at Perth’s have a long history of environmental activism and concern. We don’t just talk about it, we research it, test it and do it. In 2006, we were included in a listing of Green drycleaners by the Canadian Center for Pollution Prevention.

In 1993 , we instituted our Envirobag program. This program offers our customers the option to replace plastic poly bags with reusable nylon bags. This keeps waste out of the landfills. We have also implemented a hanger recycling program that allows our customers to return their hangers for re-use, reducing waste.

Almost 15 years ago, we introduced  the ‘Clean and Green’ method  for Suede and Leather cleaning. This is a water based, environmentally safe method. Perth's is the ONLY cleaner in Manitoba qualified to use this method.

In 1998 , we started using  an advanced hydrocarbon based cleaner that is a non hazardous product for much of our cleaning

All the soaps used in our  wet cleaning processes are phosphate free. We also use perchloroethylene. We handle this chemical carefully and safely. We pride ourselves on our proven and tested systems, which allow us to use this solvent without compromising either our customers, our employees , or the environment. Recently a E.U. scientific committee declared that perc, used within the guidelines of current regulations, is absolutely safe to consumers and workers within the industry.

You may have heard, recently, about a cleaning chemical called DrySolv , with the active ingredient n-Propyl Bromide. This chemical is not yet regulated. That does not mean that it is safe. A number of respected environmental groups have expressed serious concerns about the dangers of n-Propyl Bromide. N-Propyl bromide , the active ingredient in  Drysolv , is toxic. It is known to cause liver, nervous system  and reproductive damage, and it is currently being tested to see if it causes cancer. There is a concerted effort in the US to have n-propyl bromide banned. Perth’s would not
use it

We at Perth’s will continue to take a thoughtful, researched and careful approach in our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, and we will be sure that our solutions are sustainable. You can be assured , however, that the methods and systems we use are known to be safe that we use them  properly. We are constantly researching and developing ways to improve the environmental friendliness of everything we do. It’s the least we can do for our families, our customers, and
our world.
